Privacy policy
Last updated October 28, 2026
BinAtlas is an app for iPhone and iPad, made by Travis Ryan Douroux. This policy covers the BinAtlas app and this website, binatlas.app.
In short
- BinAtlas doesn't collect information about you. There's no BinAtlas account, no BinAtlas server, and no ads, analytics or tracking, in the app or on this website.
- What you put in BinAtlas stays on your devices and in your own iCloud, where I can't see it.
What you put in BinAtlas
Your bins, places, items, tags, notes and photos, and the values, receipts and report details of your home inventory, are saved on your iPhone or iPad. If iCloud is on for BinAtlas, Apple keeps a copy in your private iCloud database and syncs it to your other devices signed in to the same Apple Account. Apple stores it under your account, as described in Apple's privacy policy. I have no access to it.
Sharing with your household
With the Family plan you can invite people to your household. The people you invite see and can change the bins you share. Shared bins stay in your iCloud and count against its storage. You can remove people or stop sharing at any time in Settings, Household. If you join someone else's household, its bins belong to the person who shared them, and leaving removes them from your devices.
Reports and exports
Insurance reports and spreadsheet exports are made on your device. They go only where you send them.
Camera, microphone and photos
- Camera: to scan labels and barcodes, photograph bins, rooms and receipts, and read serial numbers. Codes and text are read on your device.
- Photos: photos you add are resized and saved without their location or camera details. BinAtlas reads the words printed in them, and what they show, on your device, so search and suggestions can use them. Where Apple Intelligence is available, suggestions come from Apple's model on your device.
- Microphone and speech recognition: only when you use Speak items. What you say is turned into text on your device, and isn't recorded or sent anywhere.
Notifications
If you turn on the yearly reminder to update your home inventory, BinAtlas schedules it on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
Purchases
Subscriptions are sold and managed by Apple. I don't receive your name, email address or payment details. The app asks Apple whether you have an active plan, and keeps the answer on your device.
Labels
A BinAtlas label holds a link with a random code, such as binatlas.app/b/7K2M9QX4TZ. The code says nothing about you or the bin. Someone who scans a label without the app sees a page about BinAtlas; it never shows what's in the bin.
Supplies
Supplies in BinAtlas suggests label sheets, holders, bins and shelves. When you open it, the app downloads the current list from binatlas.app, asking for the list and nothing else. Its links open Amazon in Safari or the Amazon app, where Amazon's privacy policy applies. Once Amazon approves BinAtlas as an Amazon Associate, the links carry BinAtlas's Associates tag, so Amazon can credit the referral; Amazon reports which products were bought that way, but not who bought them.
This website
binatlas.app has no cookies, analytics or trackers, and loads nothing from other websites. The app opens it for Help and feedback, this policy and the Supplies list. Like any website, it's delivered by a hosting company, Cloudflare, which processes your IP address to send you the pages and may keep standard server logs for security.
Children
BinAtlas doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Deleting your data
In BinAtlas, Settings, Erase all data deletes your bins from your devices and from iCloud. You can also delete BinAtlas's iCloud data in the Settings app: tap your name, then iCloud, then Manage Storage. Deleting the app removes its copy from that device.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
